Special Mentions | International Feature Documentary

Yamnuska: The Ragged Edge directed by John Price and Into the Heart of the Mountain directed by Annegre Bosman have been honored with special mentions in the International Feature Documentary category at 21st edition of Kathmandu International Mountain Film Festival [Kimff 2024].

Congratulations to the team!

The jury panel describes the selection of Yamnuska: The Ragged Edge and  Into the Heart of the Mountain as; Director John Price follows two modern climbers in the footsteps of their great role models from the 1960s. They set out to celebrate the rich history of one of Canada’s most famous climbing mountains. Insightful interviews with colorful personalities and witty montages from archive footage of the first ascents of various peaks bring the past to life. Through the impressive images and what it demands of climbers, the mountain becomes a real character.

We would like to give a special mention to ‘Into the Heart of the Mountain’. This documentary deserves special mention for its content, the storytelling, and the quality of craft. It takes its viewers to one of the remotest mountain villages of Humla, Nepal, through winding mountain trails exposing the spectacular views of the mountains as well as the hardship of mountain life. A portrayal of the life of a Western Christian-turned nun and her dedication and commitment towards spirituality, social justice, and humanity.

This beautiful film is about climate, care, courage in the altitudes of the Himalayas. It is about the voices of women who carry a Buddhist view; it is about swimming against the stream, making our way across high passes, building and crossing bridges. So grateful to Annegré Bosman whose amazing gift as a filmmaker and persistence and faith, plus Pende and others for funding. Yes, INTO THE HEART OF THE MOUNTAIN… and at the gorgeous Eye Museum… big screen, great sound. Going to film festivals first. Hope all can see soon!Roshi Joan Halifax
